Demands Traded on Joseph's Tomb Visits

Commander Avi Mizrachi of the Israel Defense Forces' Central District asked Rabbi Eliezer Berland, who heads the Shuvu Banim (Return, Sons) yeshiva, to act to reduce unauthorized trips to Joseph's Tomb in the Palestinian Authority-assigned Samarian city of Shechem. The two met on Sunday, following the death of 24-year-old Ben-Yoseph Livnat of Elon Moreh, who was shot by a Palestinian Authority police officer during one such unauthorized visit, a little more than three months ago. Major-General Mizrachi said the unauthorized visits endanger lives.

Rabbi Berland, one of the prominent leaders of the Breslav movement, asked Mizrachi to increase the number of authorized entries to Joseph's Tomb, and to increase the number of people allowed to enter on each visit.
