Knesset Legal Advisor Eyal Ynon has issued a legal opinion that a bill to bar companies boycotting Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria from state contracts is illegal and will be rejected by the Supreme Court, according to a Sunday-evening report by Channel 2 television. According to the sharply-worded opinion, the bill by Coalition Chairman Ze'ev Elkin would have a "filtering effect" on freedom of expression regarding the future of those communities.
Earlier in the day, Elkin told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew service, "I am also for freedom of expression, but here there's harm to someone else. It's impossible to beat [someone] in the name of freedom of expression." He said it was unthinkable that boycotters would ask benefits, such as different allowances, from the state.
