Shalom: Don't Be Ashamed to Say Judaization of Galilee

Deputy Prime Minister Silvan Shalom, who heads the Ministry for Development of the Negev and the Galilee, praised the Bnei Akiva movement Thursday for its role in bringing Jews to those areas. Speaking at the dedication of the new 20-million-shekel campus of the movement's Hesder yeshiva in downtown Akko, in northern Israel, Shalom said, "Establishment of the yeshiva has, in fact, turned the city of Akko into one that is attracting many Jews who have returned to it and is helping to strengthen the trend of Judaizing the Galilee." He added, "There's nothing to be ashamed of in that statement!"

Shalom called the yeshiva's rabbis and students the advanced force of Zionist achievement, adding, "You let all of us know that there are those who will always stand first when called to help realize the vision: Judaization of the Galilee, Judaization of the Negev and fulfilling the commandment of settling the land of Israel."
