Iran Slams New US Sanctions on Syria

Iran slammed new U.S. sanctions on Syria imposed Wednesday. An Iranian official said that the U.S. was “taking advantage” of unrest in Syria in order to break up the Damascus-Tehran alliance.

"The West could not stop regional uprisings ... America lost a close ally in the region with the overthrow of (Egyptian President Hosni) Mubarak," the official said. "As interests of America and its allies are endangered in the region ... they are trying to shift the crisis by creating problems for independent countries (like Iran and Syria)."
