About a thousand people, representing the spectrum of religious belief, went to the Tombs of Joshua and Caleb in the Samarian Arab village of Timnat-Charas, between the Jewish communities of Ariel and Barkan during the course of Thursday evening, ahead of this Shabbat's reading of the portion of Shelach Lecha (Numbers 13-15:37), which tells of the sending of 12 tribal leaders to the Land of Israel following the Exodus from Egypt. Joshua and Caleb were the only two who had a positive interpretation of what they saw. The prophetic reading from the book of Joshua is about the sending of two spies to Jericho.

One of the features of the prayer session was a mass recital of the "Aleinu Leshabeach" prayer composed by Joshua when he led the Children of Israel in the conquest of the land.
