For the first time in four years, senior Fatah officials, including Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority (PA), marched together with Hamas leaders in Ramallah. The Hamas leaders lay bouquets on the grave of former PA chairman Yassir Arafat. Tens of thousands of PA residents went to Ramallah to participate in observance of "Nakba Day," the hostile Arab term for the secular calendar date on which the state of Israel was established. They waved Palestine Liberation Organization flags and criticized Israel.

At the Kalandia checkpost between northern Jerusalem and Ramallah, an estimated 600 youth threw rocks and flares at soldiers stationed at the crossing. The soldiers responded with tear gas. In Jerusalem, four demonstrators were detained for questioning following clashes between demonstrators and police.
