President Shimon Peres got a lesson in bird migration in the Negev during a visit to the Ramat Hanegev Council region Friday morning. Providing the lesson were Amir Balaban of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) and SPNI's Dr. Yossi Leshem, who teaches at Tel Aviv University.
During a tour of the area, they showed Peres some of the birds that had been trapped for the purpose of putting rings around their legs for tracking purposes. They also discussed the national network of birdwatching posts being advanced by SPNI's birdwatching center.
