Ivory Coast President-elect Alassane Ouattara announced on Monday that he will instruct the country’s Justice Minister to begin legal proceedings against former President Laurent Gbagbo, who was arrested on Monday.

In a speech to the nation, Ouattara said that all the steps had been taken to protect citizens from what he termed Gbagbo’s “psychotic security” and added that this is “a new era of hope” for the citizens of Ivory Coast.

Ouattara also called on the citizens to calm things down in the country and disarm.
