A spokesman for the Libyan government said overnight Monday that the government in Tripoli is ready to discuss a political solution with coalition forces.

A statement issued by the Libyan government stated that the ruler, Muammar Qaddafi, will not resign from office but that the Libyan government “is prepared to discuss reforms, whether in the form of an election or a referendum.”

The statement further noted that it is only the Libyan people who have the right to decide if Qaddafi remains in power or not.
