The Tel Aviv District Court sentenced former president Moshe Katzav to seven years in prison and two years probation Tuesday on his conviction for a series of sexually related charges.
The court also ordered Katzav to pay 25,000 shekels compensation to his victims. Judge George Kara said the rape cases carried the label of moral turpitude, which would block Katzav from public office upon his release. Katzav is expected to file an appeal but interrupted the reading of the sentence to say that he had not done so.
