Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz and Histradrut labor federation head Ofer Eini have reached an agreement regarding minimum wage. The minimum monthly wage for full-time work is to be increased to 4,300 shekels, up from 3,850.

The change will take place gradually, with the wage being upped to 4,100 monthly in July 2011, and then increased to 4,300 in October 2012. It will apply to employees in both the public and private sectors.

The Histadrut had threatened a general strike over rising prices, and the increase in minimum wage was part of a government response aimed at helping the working class meet the higher cost of living.
