Businessman Arcadi Gaydamak, who purchased the financially troubled Bikur Holim hospital in 2007 visited the facility on Wednesday. He said he will not allow the hospital to be shut down, despite its economic situation. Bikur Holim first opened in 1826. In 1912 the cornerstone was laid for the current building, located near the historic Mea Shearim neighborhood.
