The Supreme Council of the Egyptian Army announced Sunday afternoon that it was cancelling the constitution and disbanding the parliament.
The council said it was appointing a committee to write a new constitution over the next six months, after which the country will hold its first free elections since the "Coup of the Free Officers" in 1952.
