Israeli Arabs Wave Pictures of Nasser at Rally

Hundreds attended a solidarity rally on Saturday in Nazareth supporting the regime change in Egypt. It was initiated by the Balad Party. Jamal Zahalka and Haneen Zoubi, two of their three Knesset Member spoke at the rally.

The demonstrators waved the flags of Egypt and of the PLO as well as pictures of former Egyptian President Gamal Nasser. They chanted slogans celebrating the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak.

Nasser was the leader in the 1950s and 1960's when Egypt was Israel's number one enemy. Egypt subsequently signed the Camp David Accords with Israel, On Saturday the Egyptian army promised to adhere to the Accords.

Nazareth is located in the north of Israel and has an almost solid Arab population.
