Uruguay announced Monday that it will recognize a Palestinian Authority (PA) state next year, according to Agence France Presse. The announcement followed one by Argentina that it would recognize a PA state along the 1949 cease-fire lines. Deputy foreign minister Roberto Conde told AFP. "Uruguay will surely follow the same path as Argentina in 2011." He added, "We are working towards opening a diplomatic representation in Palestine, most likely in Ramallah."
Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor told AFP: "This regrettable decision will not help at all to change the situation between Israel and the Palestinians."
