Homefront Command Working on SMS Plan
The Homefront Command is working on a plan that would send SMS status messages on emergencies and problems in areas where there is unrest or other problems. The plan is part of an overall effort to improve communications with Israelis via television, radio, the internet, and cellphones, to alert residents to emergencies and issues.
The system would be used in case of war, officials said, especially in a war where missiles are fired at Israeli cities, as they were during the second Lebanon war. The officials said that with an alert system, they could reduce the casualty rate in the case of a missile attack very significantly.
