At a meeting of a selection committee Avi Hasson has been named Israel's new Chief Scientist, taking over for the retiring Dr. Eli Ophir at the beginning of 2011. Hasson, 40, has been a partner at the Gemini venture capital fund for the past 10 years, and has worked with hundreds of Israeli startups.
Speaking after the decision, Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said that Hasson was taking a job at a challenging time, “when competition is increasing, both from Eastern and Western countries who are increasing their hi-tech capabilities.”
