Brigadier-General Aviv Kochavi is scheduled to be promoted to the rank of general and be appointed to replace Amos Yadlin as chief of military intelligence on Monday in a ceremony as the intelligence branch's training base.
The 28-year-veteran spent more than half of that time in the Paratroop Brigade, with a liaison assignment along the Lebanese border following his acquisition of a masters degree in public administration from Harvard. He commanded the Gaza division at the time of Israel's uprooting of the Jewish community there in 2005. After getting a second masters at Johns Hopkins University, he became head of the Israel Defense Forces' Operations Division, planning and participating in the Cast Lead counterterror operation in Gaza at the end of 2008 and beginning of 2009.
