Canada has refused to give asylum to an Israeli who tried to receive immigrant status in the country. Yuri Goldstone claimed in court that he deserved asylum in Canada because he was afraid to remain in Israel. Goldstone told the court that Israel was a dangerous place, and that he was morally opposed to serving in the IDF.

The court said that it would not grant him asylum. Goldstone was no different than any other Israeli, it said. Canada has in recent months sought to tighten its asylum policy, officials said.
