Lands Official Denies Bedouin Claims on Negev

Shlomo Tzizer, who manages supervision over the Israel Land Administration's southern region, said Thursday that the battle for the unauthorized Bedouin village of Al-Arkib, next to Rahat in the northern Negev, is not over. Last week, 1,500 policemen secured the demolition of houses built without authorization in the village, and hundreds more had to return after the Bedouin tried to rebuild the homes.

Tzizer said they have homes in Rahat but are trying to establish their ownership of the land. He said that the land actually belongs to other Bedouin who left at the time the modern Jewish state was founded in 1948.
