Speaking to reporters Tuesday afternoon, IDF Northern Commander Gadi Eisenkott said that Lebanese soldiers had ambushed an IDF unit that was operating inside Israeli territory on the northern border early Tuesday afternoon. The Lebanese soldiers demanded that the Israeli soldiers leave the area, and one began firing. IDF soldiers returned the fire, injuring several Lebanese soldiers. At Lebanon's request, Israel stopped firing in order to enable medics to evacuate the injured soldiers, but a half hour later, they began firing rockers at IDF positions, Eisenkott said. One IDF officer, Dov Harari, was killed in the attack, and a second was seriously injured.
