A campaign started recently to sell burial plots in the ancient cemetery of Tzfat, next to graves of famous sages. Motti Dayan, who is part of the campaign, told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew service on Thursday that a Jew can gain merit by burial next to a Torah giant for the same 8,000 shekels charged any non-resident of Tzfat. He added that there have been inquiries from Tel Aviv and abroad.
He added that there's more merit to purchasing a plot in advance, and expressed hope that proceeds from the sale would help pay the costs of maintaining the site. Among those buried in the cemetery are Rabbi Yosef Caro, editor of the compendium of Jewish law called the Shulchan Aruch, and Kabbalistic Rabbi Yitzchak Luria, the Ari Hakadosh (Holy Lion) or Ari-zal (Lion of blessed memory). Dayan invited the public to come to Tzfat next week on the 5th of Av for the 438th anniversary of Rabbi Luria's passing.
