A meeting between Rabbinical heads of Hesder yeshivot and Defense Minister Ehud Barak Tuesday night, called as a result of IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi's suggestion to end the arrangement with the yeshivot that allows students to serve in the IDF in the context of their yeshiva attendance, has concluded. Speaking to Arutz 7, Rabbi David Stav, of the Petach Tikvah Hesder Yeshiva, who attended the meeting, said that it had been conducted in a "pleasant and positive atmosphere."
Rabbi Stav said that the Rabbis told Barak that they opposed protests within the context of army service, but that they would not give up their rights express their ideas and thoughts. Rabbi Stav said that Barak said that he ask to set up a meeting with Rabbi Eliezer Melamed and discuss several issues with him, before deciding on how to proceed.
