An Israeli diplomatic source said Wednesday that the United States is opposed to a deal to release Gilad Shalit in exchange for some 1,000 terrorists.
The source said that the White House believes that releasing terrorists at this time will damage the standing of Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas, and constitute a victory for Hamas.
