Chief army prosecutor Avichai Mendelblit has ordered investigations into 12 incidents stemming from last winter's Operation Cast Lead in Gaza that were the focus of Military Police or operational investigations even before the publication of the Goldstone report on alleged abuses during the campaign, according to a Friday report by Haaretz. Two involved Arab claims of civilian deaths while the 10 claims of property destruction.
The investigations are being coordinated by Lieutenant Colonel Gil Mamon, the chief of Military Police in the Southern Command. The findings are to serve as the basis for a counter-Goldstone report that is expected to be ready in a month.
