A number of Palestinian Authority (PA) officials have denied a report by Channel 10 television Monday night that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas threatened to quit during a Monday evening telephone call with United States President Barack Obama.
Yasser Abed-Rabbo, the secretary-general of the PLO's executive committee, told the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency that he “witnessed the phone call between President Abbas and President Obama and the talks did not have anything to do to with Abbas resigning. However Obama said that [US Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton will visit the area soon to encourage the situations for the better.”
