Jewish groups have organized a Tisha B’Av prayer service for Israel and endangered Jewish communities on Thursday opposite the United Nations. The AMCHA-Coalition for Jewish Concerns and the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry will team together in the 2:00 p.m. prayer service at the Isaiah Peace Wall, located at First Avenue and 43rd Street in Manhattan.

The prayer service, led by Rabbi Avi Weiss for over three decades, will commemorate the calamities that have befallen the Jewish people throughout history. Worshippers are encouraged to focus on the current danger of Iranian nuclear aspirations, Israel’s mortal danger from Hamas and Hizbullah, and rising anti-Semitism in Europe and the former Soviet Union. Worshippers are requested to bring a prayerbook. Male worshippers are encouraged to bring a talit (prayer shawl) and tefillin. Further information could be obtained by emailing the organizers at tishabav@aol.com or by phoning in the U.S. (212) 663-5784.
