(IsraelNN.com) A sharp increase in the number of cases of salivary gland cancer was revealed in a report released Thursday by the Israel Dental Association. The researchers believe the increase is attributable to the use of mobile telephones.Conducted by Dr. Avi Zini from the Hebrew University School of Dental Medicine, the research reviewed data collected from 1970 to 2006 and discovered a sharp increase of 70 new cases per year over the last five years.

The total number of salivary gland cancer patients in 1970 was 25. Zini connected the increase to greater cellular phone usage and exposure to radiation, based on the dates which identified populations simutaneously experiencing greater mobile phone use and more salivary gland cancer cases.
