A convoy of 70 vehicles from the Talmonim-Dolev block of Jewish communities just west of Ramallah drove to Jerusalem on Friday to protest the designation of a principle traffic artery for Arabs only. The vehicles took the route leading to the Jerusalem-Modi'in Highway (443) without incident, but were detained by authorities for half an hour on their way back.

The route was closed nine years ago following a wave of Arab terror attacks. The alternate routes doubled the half-hour travel time to the capital.

The protesters say Friday's convoy will be repeated.
