NJ Man Jailed for Broadcasting Hizbullah

A New Jersey man was sentenced Wednesday in Manhattan federal court to 17 months in prison for providing material support to the Lebanon-based Hizbullah terrorist organization, according to the Examiner. From 2005 through 2006, Hizbullah's television station al-Manar paid Saleh Elahwal thousands of dollars to use his satellite transmission company - HDTV Limited - to broadcast transmissions.

Elahwal admitted that he provided the services knowing al-Manar’s ties to the terrorist organization. In addition to the prison term, he was ordered to pay a fine of $7,500, serve 200 hours of community service, and serve three years of supervised release. The official criminal complaint and statements made during proceedings in Manhattan federal court, read: “Hizbullah ("Party of God") is an organization based in Lebanon whose stated mission is the establishment of a fundamentalist Islamic state and the destruction of the State of Israel. Hizbullah regards the United States as its enemy in this struggle.”
