UN Investigator: Prosecution Unlikely from Gaza Probe

Judge Richard Goldstone, who heads the probe by the United Nations Human Rights Council into the past winter's Cast Lead counterror operation in Gaza, says the investigation is unlikely to lead to war-crimes prosecutions, according to a Tuesday report by the Associated Press. Goldstone hopes his group's report - due in September - will spur action by other U.N. bodies and foreign governments.

Israel said it would not cooperate with the probe, claiming that it would be biased against Israel, given the Human Rights Council's track record. The testimony gathered by the investigating team has been tainted by the fact that Hamas representatives have been present.
