PA Rejects Netanyahu Demand of Recognizing Israel First

Sources in the Palestinian Authority rejected on Thursday evening, the demand made earlier by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that the PA recognize a Jewish State of Israel as a precondition for continuing negotiations with Israel.

Nabil abu-Rudeinah, spokesman for PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas called Netanyahu's words a provocation and said that the new Israeli government was placing obstacles in front of the solution of two states for two peoples being promoted by the United States. He called on the international community to examine Israeli policy for fear it would have "a poisonous effect" on the region.
