Yaalon Deputy PM and Minister on Strategic Threats

Likud Leader Binyamin Netanyahu named former Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Moshe Yaalon Monday night to be Minister on Strategic Threats and Deputy Prime Minister. Yaalon will also be a member of the security cabinet and head the National Security Council.

Former Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom may also be named Deputy Premier. It was not clear late Monday evening if MK Shalom would be named to head a ministry. Late Monday evening, he rejected the post of Minister for Economic Development.

Yuval Steinitz appeared headed to be named Finance Minister. Netanyahu, who won praise and criticism in the post, had wanted to serve there again, but Steinitz reportedly was not satisfied with merely being a minister within the treasury.
