In her first speech to the United Nations Security Council, United States ambassador Susan Rice called for an end to politicization of Israel's recent counter-terror operation in Gaza. Ambassador Rice told a council session on international humanitarian law that violation of humanitarian law was started by Hamas in launching rockets at the population of southern Israel and the use of civilian installations to defend its terror attacks.
During the session Libya and some European countries criticized what they called Israel's violations of the law. She called some of them inflammatory and added that Israel is expected to live up to its international commitments and to investigate complaints.
