The Vatican affirmed in a front-page article Monday in its L'Osservatore Romano newspaper that Holocaust denial remarks by recently rehabilitated bishop Richard Williamson were unacceptable. Williamson taught that no Jews were murdered in gas chambers by the Nazis during World War II.
In the report, the newspaper reiterated that the current Pope, Benedict XVI deplores all forms of anti-Semitism and that all Roman Catholics must do the same. The paper said that Holocaust denial violates Church teachings.
Nonetheless, Williamson's excommunication had been removed.
