Outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is good at fiction, according to a response by United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to his version of a conversation with United States President George W. Bush before she abstained in a 14-0 United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
"The Prime Minister was, I hope, quoted out of context, because the story that I read in the newspaper is fiction," she said a day after State Department spokesman Sean McCormack called Olmert's comments "absolutely, 100 percent, untrue."
Rice said she was aware of the Prime Minister's phone call to the president but added, "Of course, Prime Minister Olmert is not at all aware of what the president said to me. And I repeat, his rendering of this is fiction -- if, in fact, that was his rendering of it."
