A ceremony was held Monday between the Interior Ministry and the Hewlett-Packard Company finalizing a deal for Hewlett-Packard to produce biometric Israeli Identity Cards. The new cards will include a chip which will allow for the absolute verification of the identity of its holder.

Interior Minister Meir Shitrit said, “This is a revolution which will be the basis for protecting the security of Israel.” He explained that today there are over 350,000 fake identity cards in Israel. The new card will help deal with this problem.
