Israeli officials said Saturday night that it appeared that Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka were killed during the first hours of the takeover of Beit Chabad by terrorists. Rivka Holtzberg was found tied up in the building, as were the other murdered Israelis and Jews.

On Thursday, Indian media said that the Beit Chabad was not a primary target of the terrorists, and that the terror gang had taken refuge in the building after a gun battle with Indian soldiers. But Israeli officials told Channel 2 Saturday that such a scenario was very unlikely – because the Chabad House was on a side street. "It's not on a main street, and they wouldn't have gone out of their way if they hadn't been targeting it," a security official was quoted on Channel 2 as saying.
