President-elect Barack Obama chose Illinois lawmaker Rahm Emanuel to be his White House chief of staff, according to the Associated Press. This is Obama's first selection for the new administration, Democratic officials said Wednesday.
Emanuel served as a political and policy adviser to President Bill Clinton.
His father, Benjamin M. Emanuel, was a member of the Irgun in the 1940s. Emanuel's parents left Israel for the United States before he was born.
