Bosnia Synagogue Razed as Jews Leave

Bosnia Jews have failed in their efforts to save a 19th century synagogue from the wrecking ball, and a shopping center will be built on the site. The synagogue has not been used since 1941, when it was damaged during World War II.

The Jewish population has sharply dwindled in Bosnia, and a large number of remaining Jews have assimilated. The number of Jews in Bosnia has dropped from 76,000 in 1939 to 2,500.
