The deputy director of the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (I.A.E.A.) who is in charge of the investigation into Iran's nuclear development activities will visit the Islamic Republic on Thursday.

A spokesman for Olli Heinonen would not say, however, what the purpose of the visit was, nor how long he planned to stay. Iran has declined to respond directly to demands by the six world powers that it freeze its uranium enrichment program and other nuclear development activities, leaving open the increasing likelihood that the U.N. Security Council will move to impose further sanctions against the Islamic nation.
