Fire Crews Fight Dozens of Blazes, None Hurt

A very large blaze broke out in the Forest of Angels east of Kiryat Gat Wednesday afternoon. Fire crews from Kiryat Gat and Ashkelon, together with JNF crews and three fire fighting planes, tried to bring the fire under control.

17 fires broke out in the western Galilee and Haifa's Krayot area alone. The largest of these was near Sderot Dgania in Kiryat Chaim. It was put out by six local fire crews, who prevented the flames from reaching a fuel depot.

In addition, two fires broke out in Petach Tikva: in one case, dry weeds and thorns in an unpaved parking lot near the municipality building began burning and would have set parked cars ablaze had it not been for a quick reaction by passersby and a fire crew. A field of thorns in Elad, near Shoham, also burned and covered adjoining buildings in thick smoke. Three Petach Tikva fire crews put out this fire.

No one was reported hurt in any of these blazes.
