The Quartet's Middle East envoy Tony Blair told a conference in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Tuesday that there are investment opportunities in the Palestinian Authority (PA). He said the PA and private sector are hosting a three-day business conference in Bethlehem next month, offering more than $1 billion in projects to foreign investors.
"The title of the conference is 'you can do business in Palestine,'" he said. "It is true that the weight of the occupation is very heavy. It is true also that... we hope we can in the coming months start lifting the restrictions on access."
A donor conference in Europe in December lured $7.7 billion in pledges for aid to the PA, including projects in the Hamas-run Gaza area.
