IDF officials warned Saturday that Hizbullah is actively seeking out Druze and Bedouin IDF soldiers as spies. The warning came shortly after 34-year-old Arab Catholic soldier Louai Balut was arrested for allegedly providing information on IDF activities to Hizbullah in order to coordinate drug smuggling activities.
Security officials said the issue was “an extreme point of concern,” and said the IDF would take precautions to prevent cases of spying for Hizbullah in the future. Officials stressed that Bedouin and Druze soldiers make great contributions to the IDF, and that their service would continue to be appreciated.
