Bank of Israel officials announced Thursday that they would be purchasing United States dollars over the next two years, beginning next week.  Israel will purchase $25 million a day for a total of $10 billion, they said.

News of the planned purchase caused the dollar to strengthen by 1.86 percent.  The dollar closed at 3.443 NIS.
