U.S. President George W. Bush said at Ramallah Thursday that when he passed through IDF checkpoints on the way there he understood why Palestinians were frustrated, but also why Israelis needed a feeling of security. "The checkpoints create a feeling of security for Israel, and a feeling of frustration for Palestinians," he said.
"You'll be glad to hear my convoy passed through the checkpoint without being stopped, but I am not sure the same holds true for an ambulance," he said.
"When there is a state that is able to protect itself and give security to its neighbor, there will be no need for checkpoints," the President added.
