Iran's Defense Minister publicized a new missile Tuesday which will have the ability to reach Israel, U.S. targets in the Persian Gulf, and parts of eastern and southern Europe.
The "Ashura" has a range of 1,250 miles, not much farther than Iran's previously most powerful missile, the "Shehab-3". The Ashura, unlike the Shehab-3, uses a multi-stage, solid-fuel engine, which will make the new missile more effective for long-range strategic use.
The Israeli defense establishment has already successfully tested the Arrow missile defense system, which is capable of tracking and intercepting the Shehab-3.
