The Muslim country of The Maldives, located southwest of Sri Lanka, has ordered its state-run television to stop praising Palestinian Authority (PA) suicide bombers. It also prohibited employing women who cover their heads. The unusual moves by a Muslim nation were made in an effort to prevent the spread of Muslim terrorism in the country, home to 330,000 Sunni Muslims and a popular spot for wealthy tourists.
Information Minister Mohamed Nasheed said news programs will not be allowed to "refer to Palestinian suicide bombers as jihadis," according to the French news agency AFP.
The opposition Adalaath party called the new measures a disgrace and "a denial of [women's] basic religious freedom, the right to seek justice."
