Beitar J'lem Fans Jeer Olmert

Beitar Jerusalem fans shouted chants against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert Saturday evening, at the start of the soccer game between Beitar and Eeronee Kiryat Shemona at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem.

Olmert, who is a longtime Beitar fan, voiced harsh criticism last week of the teams' fans who booed during a moment of silence for assassinated prime minister Yitzchak Rabin in a match last Sunday. Olmert said the booers were "more than a handful of people" and called their behavior "despicable and ugly."

An Israel Football Association court punished Beitar by barring its fans from the next two games it is scheduled to play, after today's game.
