According to Italian news agency ANSAmed, Egyptian cleric Mohammed el-Mongui has issued a fatwa saying that Egyptian Muslim men cannot marry non-Muslim Israeli women.  Muslim men are usually allowed and often encouraged to marry non-Muslim women.

Mongui explained that “all sheikhs and scholars” forbid marriage with non-Muslim Israeli women, as Israel requires women to enlist in the IDF, making them “enemies of Islam.”  Any Muslim man marrying a Jewish or Christian woman from Israel “will be considered as a traitor and enemy of Islam and Muslims,” he said.
